Kingman Turquoise is sourced from the Colbaugh Mine in Arizona, a third-generation family operation, and is renowned for its vibrant color variation and distinctive matrix. Much of the turquoise from this mine is soft-stabilized, allowing it to be more durable and suitable for jewelry.
Origins: Kingman, AZ
MOHs Hardness: 5-6
Treatment: Stabilized
Care: Turquoise is a particularly soft and porous gemstone. Contact with cosmetics, oils, acids, etc. can discolor and erode the gemstone. Strands of turquoise should not be washed- they should be wiped down with a soft clean cloth before storing. Wetting the silk can cause stretching. Do not use an ultrasonic or steam cleaner.

THE ANATOMY OF HBJ STRANDS

Like tiny ocean blossoms, the barnacles on our jewelry hold the rough-and-tumble nostalgia of the sea. Each one is hand-carved in wax by Hannah and cast into fine metals, gathering in quiet clusters that speak to the resilience of holding fast through changing tides.

Carved by hand in wax and cast into fine metals, the fishhook clasp draws from those used by Hannah’s father aboard his "Ruthie B" boat. Meant to be seen, it often rests at the front, serving as both a closure and an element of design: an homage to the sea.

Each strand is individually hand-knotted on silk thread in vivid, unexpected colors chosen by Hannah herself. We love the playful flash of bright pinks, teals, greens, reds, and blues woven between each bead, bringing each necklace to life. Beyond their beauty, the silk knots help protect the pearls and beads from abrasion and breakage, creating a strand that is as durable as it is distinctive.

We love to adorn pearls, turquoise, and other beads and stones with barnacles - a curious twist on a classic design. Drilled and set into the surface, the barnacles cling as though they always belonged there.
