Emerald gemstones are a green variety of the beryl mineral, which also includes aquamarine. Some gemstone dealers refer to the inclusions of emeralds as the jardin, or garden. HBJ loves emeralds for their complex inclusions and rich, green hues that embody Mother Nature's favorite season: spring.
Origins: Various
MOHs Hardness: 7.5-8 but brittle due to common inclusions
Treatment: All emeralds are oiled unless otherwise stated. This treatment is a centuries old industry standard.
Care: Emeralds are a relatively hard gemstone, but due to their inclusions they are quite brittle: avoid knocking or dropping them onto hard surfaces. To clean your emerald piece, use warm water with mild soap and a soft toothbrush or cloth. Do not use a steam cleaner or ultrasonic cleaner

THE ANATOMY OF THE BARNACLE

Small but enduring, barnacles thrive where waves, wind, and time leave their mark. Their clustered forms remind us that strength is found in persistence: holding fast, growing together, and weathering every tide. A quiet echo of the sea, and of resilience shaped over time.

From tiny clusters to sprawling formations, smooth domes to gemstone-set treasures, Hannah has spent years creating a world of barnacles in every size and shape. Each begins as a hand-carved wax sculpture, capturing the organic textures and irregular beauty of the shoreline before being cast in precious metal.

We love to adorn pearls, turquoise, and other beads and stones with barnacles - a curious twist on a classic design. Drilled and set into the surface, the barnacles cling as though they always belonged there.

Cast in solid silver, gold, and platinum, the barnacles take on a new permanence as tiny forms that capture the ocean’s raw beauty.
