Variscite (scrimshaw) is often confused with turquoise, but it is greener. The variscite from Ivory Creek is known for being a soft white to beige to pale green. Variscite was originally found in 1837 in the Vogtland district of Saxony, Germany, known as “Variscia,” where variscite gets its name.
