Herkimer "diamonds" are raw quartz crystals mined exclusively in Herkimer, NY. Nearly 500 millions years old, these gemstones are naturally formed with 18 facets, 6 sides, and 2 points, holding history within their unique inclusions.
Some of HBJ’s favorite variations include...
COLOR VEIL: A healed fracture that reflects light like a rainbow of shattered glass.
SKELETAL CRYSTAL: A depressed cavern formed during the growth stage of the stone. This indentation is patterned with multiple parallel lines stepping toward the top of the crystal.
PIGGYBACK: A baby crystal growing out of the surface of a larger crystal.
SOLID INCLUSION: A mineral caught within the crystal. This mineral is often black anthraxolite, adding dark specks to the stone.
SMOKY CRYSTAL: A pale grey to black discoloration resembling wisps of smoke.
MOHs Hardness: 7.5
Origins: Herkimer, NY
Care: Though hardy and durable, Herkimers can break. Avoid dropping them onto hard surfaces. To clean, soak in warm, soapy water and remove any dirt with a toothbrush or the like.
Healing Properties: Herkimer quartz "diamonds" are believed to amplify and promote mental purity, visions, and spiritualization of physical life.

Like Ocean Glass washed up from the ocean with barnacles attached from their underwater journey, these Ruthie B earrings have an organic edge with a touch of lady like flourish in the gold ear hooks and barnacles. I love the calm blue with the edgy and lady like mix. These are earrings a mermaid left on her large rock perchv as she was luring a sailor into her charms. Lucky me I found them!

Oh my gosh...Hannah's art work of the Seaborn Nautilus is absolutely beautiful. I picked this Scrimshaw because the Nautilus is ancient and mysterious in it's alien underworld beauty. An homage to Hannah's childhood and the nostalgia of her fishing home, this collection comprises gritty nautical-inspired pieces. The collection is named after Hannah's father's fishing vessel, the Ruthie B, which was named after Hannah's mother. Ruthie B. celebrates the mystery and natural peculiarity of the ocean that painted the artist’s childhood. In their weathered island home, Hannah and her six siblings learned how to entertain themselves amidst the chaos that comes with such a large family. The dingy fishing paraphernalia that littered their backyard was a playground of inspiration: raw snapshots of beauty against the clean backdrop of their hometown of Nantucket.
