A gemstone of regality and vibrancy, lapis lazuli is steeped in ancient Egyptian history where it was referred to as "heaven's stone." The lapis lazuli mines that in Afghanistan have been producing this gemstone since 700 BC are still in use today, making them the oldest source of commercial gemstones. Hannah Blount Jewelry loves lapis lazuli for its rich shades of cobalt blue, organic striations, and glimmering pockets of pyrite.
MOHs Hardness: 5-6
Care: Avoid dropping your lapis lazuli jewelry onto hard surfaces and keep away from chemicals: contact with cosmetics, oils, acids, etc. can damage lapis lazuli. To clean your lapis lazuli jewelry, use warm, soapy water and remove any dirt with a toothbrush or the like gently. Do not use an ultrasonic or steam cleaner.
Healing Properties: Courage, honesty, and protection from evil.
