Like moonlight across a quiet inlet, this necklace holds a soft, shadowed glow. Its Montana sapphire- deep, glassy blue with flashes like light over moving water- feels both mysterious and calming, a small tide of brightness carried close to the heart.

A cluster of Hannah’s hand-carved barnacles nestles along the bezel, offering a touch of wild shoreline against the polished gold. Delicate and luminous, this necklace evokes the stillness of nighttime water: reflective, restorative, and deeply quiet. A piece for those who find clarity in dark tides, solace in quiet coves, and beauty in the gentle shimmer of water after dusk.

Mined in the US and easy to trace its ethical origins, Montana Sapphires tend to come in muted, dreamy colors. Sapphires are a corundum variety, like rubies, that come in every color but red. While classic, cobalt sapphires are the most popular, the HBJ studio loves those with inclusions and atypical coloring. Sapphire inclusions are formed by minerals called needles; in ancient Greece and Rome, royalty believed that sapphires provided protection.
Origins: Montana, USA
MOHs Hardness: 9
Care: While sapphires are very sturdy, they can still break. Avoid dropping them onto hard surfaces. To clean your sapphire piece, soak in warm, soapy water and remove any dirt with a toothbrush or the like. It is safe to clean with an ultrasonic and steam cleaner

THE ANATOMY OF THE BARNACLE

Like tiny ocean blossoms, the barnacles on our jewelry hold the rough-and-tumble nostalgia of the sea. Each one is hand-carved, gathering in quiet clusters that speak to the resilience of holding fast through changing tides.

From tiny clusters to larger barnacles set with gemstones, all of our barnacles are hand-carved by Hannah.

We love to adorn pearls, turquoise, and other beads and stones with barnacles- a curious twist on a classic design. Drilled and set into the surface, the barnacles cling as though they always belonged there.

Cast in solid silver, gold, and platinum, the barnacles take on a new permanence as tiny forms that capture the ocean’s raw beauty.
