Wax Carving

  

 Here is a photographed sequence of steps in the wax-carving process.
Some photographs may seem redundant, but in reality there are about one to two hours in between each one.

And 12 hours later... I have it's mate:

At this point, two finished shells have been carved, but they are solid. To hollow them out, I did this:

 

After thinning each to an appropriate thickness, I sent them off to my caster to be cast in sterling silver. Then, once they returned to me, I soldered them back together and oxidized them.


And that is how the Large Sea Snail Necklace was made:
