I remember, as a little girl, tracing my fingertips over the ornate patterns left on shells after years of tumbling through the ocean. I would wonder about the deep holes in the mermaid's purses I found in the sand. Truth be told, the ocean, as with all of nature, is a place of tough love. But the balance is beautiful.
For a long time I have dreamed of deconstructing the lovely shells I work with. The ornate piercing gives the shells a delicacy they possess in nature.
For now, each piece in this series will be weathered individually, as one-of-a-kind statements.
