Waxing Moon Sapphire Vanity Necklace

This necklace holds a quiet kind of glow, like the moon just beginning to rise over dark water. At its center sits a soft, misty blue sapphire. The stone carries gentle inclusions and subtle movement within it, giving it a sense of depth and life rather than perfect clarity, like weather caught in crystal.

The sapphire is held in Hannah’s hand-formed gold prongs, allowing the natural shape of the stone to lead the design. Suspended from a sterling silver chain, the pendant feels light and effortless, like a small fragment of moonlight resting at the collarbone.

Pendant measures approx. 13.85 x 16.45mm.

Solid 14k yellow gold prongs, bail, and jump ring. Solid bright sterling silver chain, lobster clasp and stone seat.

Chain measures 18" in length, including the clasp.

All metal has a matte finish.

Sapphires are a corundum variety, like rubies, that come in every color but red. While classic, cobalt sapphires are the most popular, the HBJ studio loves those with inclusions and atypical coloring. Sapphire inclusions are formed by minerals called needles; in ancient Greece and Rome, royalty believed that sapphires provided protection. A type of corundum that comes in every color except red. I cannot express how happy I am to get to wear this piece of art every day! Every detail of this ring is perfection. The Montana sapphire is normally a moody greenish-gray but can appear a lighter green or even a shade of blue in different lighting. The white gold barnacles add just the right amount of asymmetrical interest without overpowering the beauty of the stone or the simplistic outline of the design. The craftsmanship is stunning, and no detail was overlooked in it's creation. I'm thrilled with my Ruthie B. Barnacle ring! 😀
