Faustina Senior lived 100-140 CE. She was Empress from 138-140 CE. She was known for her generosity, charitable works, and devotion to her family. After her death, her husband Emperor Antoninus Pius had her deified by the Roman Senate, and she became one of Rome's most revered empresses. Temples and commemorative coins were struck in her honor, often depicting goddesses such as Ceres (abundance and motherhood) reflecting the virtues she embodied.
Faustina Junior lived 130-175 CE. She was Empress from 145-175 CE. She was known for being the daughter of Antoninus Pius and Faustina the Elder, and one of Rome's most influential empresses. She accompanied her husband, Emporer Marcus Aurelius on military campaigns, earned the title Mater Castrorum ("Mother of the Camp"), and was celebrated as the mother of a large imperial family. Coins frequently paired her portrait with goddesses such as Juno (queen of the gods, protector of marriage and women) emphasizing her role as a symbol of stability and the imperial household.
