Wax Carving

 Here is a photographed sequence of steps in the wax-carving process.
Some photographs may seem redundant, but in reality there are about one to two hours in between each one.
Watch and learn!

   


And 12 hours later... I have it's mate:

At this point, two finished shells have been carved, but they are solid. To hollow them out, I did this:

 

After thinning each to an appropriate thickness, I sent them off to my caster to be cast in sterling silver. Then, once they returned to me, I soldered them back together and oxidized them.


And that is how the Large Sea Snail Necklace was made:

Tiny Shell

 Allow me to introduce the start of a new line, inspired by the ocean. My relationship with this vast, blue thing is slightly different from most, seeing as I am both from an island and the daughter of a fisherman. It is my hope that this background will translate in the work of this new line.

A Perfect Model!

My niece, Tori, got her ears pierced recently- to my absolutely thrilled approval! How could I ask for a more perfect model? I find every excuse to give her precious little adornments, and new to the earring field, she is just as excited to receive them. These were a Christmas gift from my mother and I, the medium Facet Hoops with Pink Tourmaline. I just love this little girl... she blows me away every time I see her. I've never met such a motivated, smart, creative, and lovely person, and she is still so young!
