Happy December! 12/01/2009
![]() It feels like Christmas every morning! My sister, Mary, aka Marizapan (as I like to call her), gave me an Advent Caldendar/ bag of wrapped goodies for me to open every morning from December 1- Christmas Eve. Needless to say, this is one of the coolest, nicest things anyone has ever done for me. Growing up, we would always get one of those door-size Advent Calendars with some snowman or nativity scene on it, and every night we would take turns opening the tiny little paper doors to see what surprise image lay underneath. It was always so exciting when it was my turn, which didn't happen very often as there were seven kids to fight over it. I'm pretty sure I cheated all the time. It wasn't as fun as the number of participants dwindled- when it becomes your turn every other day, it takes the glamor out of that little paper window. There was a time that, as the calendar hung untouched on the kitchen door the days before December 1, my brother and I would calculate when one would have to start to be the final opener- on Christmas Eve. It would always be an extra BIG paper window (sometimes measure a couple inches! Or have double doors- might as well have been two whole windows!), with the man himself, being Santa or the baby Jesus, depending on the nature of the theme. Then the real catfight would begin- but usually it just went by age. It might be silly that these little traditions are what make Christmas so special for me. It was never about the presents, it was more about the cookies, stockings, the smell of the Christmas tree, the coziness of the whole family being equally excited about the oncoming day. Marizapan gave me a bag of little gifts that will make every day special until Christmas, and I will think of her every morning. Plus, it's a nice incentive to wake up in the AM! This morning I got a Red Apple Toffee scented candle in a Mason Jar. It's fun and will fit perfectly in my room. Thanks, Marizapan! Add Comment | Follow my Blog:
