Twitter is fun 12/27/2009
I just joined Twitter! Everyone keeps talking about "tweets," and I remember thinking, "well I don't know what those are but they sure sound cute. I want one." So I decided to give it a go, and, well... almost as addicting as potato chips. At least I have a new pastime that will keep me from my work- as if I don't have enough! For those who are interested in following me, my link is: Hope to see you all there! Add Comment Merry Merry Christmas!! 12/24/2009
I hope everyone has a lovely, merry, wonderful Christmas! Happy Holidays! Tim Burton Exhibit 12/17/2009
![]() This week I had the privilege of visiting the MOMA to see the Tim Burton exhibit (I believe I mentioned the exhibit earlier). I never realized how many of my favorite movies he worked on- Big Fish, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and I cannot WAIT to see Alice in Wonderland. It was interesting that some of the images scrawled on the walls were so clearly a certain character in my memory- Mars Attack's alien, the Queen in Alice in Wonderland... they are easy connections to make, true, but somehow the little details are so distinct and memorable. As horrific as some of his works are, they are still incredibly creative and fascinating- and totally awesome. I wish I had had more time to walk through it- I highly recommend anyone to go visit, but give yourself plenty of time, for there are a plethora of cool little videos that will suck you in. You will enjoy it, I promise! This House Makes Me Happy. 12/17/2009
![]() Imagine this. You are walking home after a long day. You feel frustrated, broke, and stressed for the Holidays. It's so cold your fingers go numb before you can fumble your mittens on. Alas, you finally turn onto your street, and *poof,* a vision of brilliant, florescent light hits you like a myriad of Christmas cheer. Suddenly, you feel warm and fuzzy inside, instead of freezing, anxious, and dehydrated... It screams, "HELLO CHRISTMAS!!!!!" and you have never felt so dizzy with excitement! That is what I feel every time I turn onto my street after dark. My neighbors, whomever they may be, are my heroes. Some may find these decorations overkill, but I say, "The more the merrier!" I love it. I feel like a small child every time I walk down the street, and I get giddy with joy. I mean, let's face it- this took a lot of work, a lot of time, and hey- a lot of money. But it doesn't go unappreciated, at least not by me; and now, hopefully, by you, too. Happy Holidays everyone! My New Found Love of Glass... 12/09/2009
![]() I think I can trail my new found love of glass back to my visit to the Phipps in Pittsburgh. The Conservatory and Botanical Gardens teamed up with Dale Chihuly to make an exhibition where glass and nature are nearly interchangeable and equally as beautiful. I was reminiscing the amazing sculptures and intense orchids, and thought I just must share them! It was like being in a wonderland of... incredibly tactile, sensual, and visually exciting scenery. Walking through it only enhanced the experience- I felt like I was walking through the Jungle, or exactly how I always dreamed it would look like as a child. Here are some images of this experience. Holiday Party 12/06/2009
![]() The Holiday Party was a blast, thank you to everyone who came! My family made a plethora of cookies and shortbread, and the champagne was as sparkly as my skirt. People liked the Candy line! The hand-blown glass and bright beaded necklaces added a new twist of color and attitude into my work, which drew in a larger crowd. I was thrilled to see how happy the table looked! Happy December! 12/01/2009
![]() It feels like Christmas every morning! My sister, Mary, aka Marizapan (as I like to call her), gave me an Advent Caldendar/ bag of wrapped goodies for me to open every morning from December 1- Christmas Eve. Needless to say, this is one of the coolest, nicest things anyone has ever done for me. Growing up, we would always get one of those door-size Advent Calendars with some snowman or nativity scene on it, and every night we would take turns opening the tiny little paper doors to see what surprise image lay underneath. It was always so exciting when it was my turn, which didn't happen very often as there were seven kids to fight over it. I'm pretty sure I cheated all the time. It wasn't as fun as the number of participants dwindled- when it becomes your turn every other day, it takes the glamor out of that little paper window. There was a time that, as the calendar hung untouched on the kitchen door the days before December 1, my brother and I would calculate when one would have to start to be the final opener- on Christmas Eve. It would always be an extra BIG paper window (sometimes measure a couple inches! Or have double doors- might as well have been two whole windows!), with the man himself, being Santa or the baby Jesus, depending on the nature of the theme. Then the real catfight would begin- but usually it just went by age. It might be silly that these little traditions are what make Christmas so special for me. It was never about the presents, it was more about the cookies, stockings, the smell of the Christmas tree, the coziness of the whole family being equally excited about the oncoming day. Marizapan gave me a bag of little gifts that will make every day special until Christmas, and I will think of her every morning. Plus, it's a nice incentive to wake up in the AM! This morning I got a Red Apple Toffee scented candle in a Mason Jar. It's fun and will fit perfectly in my room. Thanks, Marizapan! | Follow my Blog:
