A Few Rings 02/28/2010
I'll be the first to admit that I have way too much fun photographing my work. Here is an example... I love these rings as a set, because they really work well with each other. I would suggest these two... ...on the finger of one hand, and this one... ...on the other hand. It makes for a very "put together" look. Ladies with wedding rings, just nix the single, medium-sized ring, and double up on the other hand! (How's that for a little competition?) Now, for those who wear gold, here is another option! Rather than buy them both in gold (expensive), buy the larger ring in silver, and the smaller ring in gold. Wear them together, and the bi-color looks intentional and sophisticated. Tip: If you don't know how to wear gold and silver together, the trick is to have one well-planned, two-toned piece of jewelry. It combines the look in an intentional way, instead of looking mismatched. Here is a more subtle version! I would recommend these rings, in whichever metals you prefer. The smaller ring is great for an everyday ring, the larger ring makes a fun cocktail ring. All together, they really stand out! Thus, you have something for your hands for any day and any mood :) 1 Comment Little Pods 02/27/2010
I just finished a smaller version of the Pod earrings... They measure 1 1/4 inches, rather than the larger 2 inches. A fun, flirty, daytime version! A Perfect Model! 02/27/2010
My niece, Tori, got her ears pierced recently- to my absolutely thrilled approval! How could I ask for a more perfect model? I find every excuse to give her precious little adornments, and new to the earring field, she is just as excited to receive them. These were a Christmas gift from my mother and I, the medium Facet Hoops with Pink Tourmaline. I just love this little girl... she blows me away every time I see her. I've never met such a motivated, smart, creative, and lovely person, and she is still so young! Isn't she just wonderful? Valentine Pearl 02/24/2010
Years ago, my brother found a large pearl in a scallop he was opening with our dad. Thinking it was kind of neat, he gave it to me to do whatever with. I remember taking it from him and thinking that I would never use it for myself- it was too special. So, I saved it for him! I visited him last spring in Hawaii (amazing), and told him about it, much to his excitement. This Valentine's Day, he had me turn it into a necklace for his Samantha (or, "The Samilton"). It is just a simple pearl necklace, with a Sapphire dangling from the top (his birthstone), and she loves it. It is just so special, she could see that from the pearl. I thought I would show you what he had me make! Happy Valentine's Day! 02/14/2010
Oh, the options of words... 02/12/2010
Just to show you what can be done with the silly little Conversation Hearts, here is an example. There is a fun nickname, "BINGLE," that goes around the wonderful little store I work at, Mint Julep. So, this is what I made for all of us! There are beads, and then there are beads. 02/12/2010
For those who have noticed a significant number of necklaces missing from this site, I have decided to revamp my "Beaded" collection. Thus, they are now gone. I love the colors one can find through precious and semi-precious stones, and I worked to capture that through the long beaded necklaces... but I found I lost a certain flavor when I turned away from my satin silver finish. I made the clasps on these necklaces, but that alone was not enough. So, I have started carving some beads of my own, and will be interweaving them into the necklaces. I will show you when they are finished :) Alexander McQueen 02/12/2010
RIP Alexander McQueen... this is truly the world's loss. Sleep No More 02/05/2010
![]() Sleep No More. I am so glad I planned ahead. I looked into buying tickets about a month ago, and the earliest tickets I could get were for last night. It sold out about a day or so later, too, so I count myself incredibly lucky. Soon to close, this was a thrilling and hair-raising production by Punchdrunk and the American Repertory Theater. It was the story of Shakespeare's Macbeth, but through the "lens of a Hitchcock thriller." AMAZING. Entering the school was an experience in and of itself- at least once we were in the building. My friend, Jemesii, and I were frantically trying to find our way through this nearly pitch black (tiny candles... tiny...) maze, and we were/ I was actually quite frightened that we were going the wrong way through the dark and into some forbidden part of the school. Or mostly that actors were going to start springing out of the darkness at us, which would have caused a considerable number of bodily reactions... But that was just the introduction, for soon we were through a curtain and into an old-fashioned, lagoon-style bar, with a jazz band and lovely little punch drinks at our service. When our cards were called (literally), we were given the most eerie, beautiful white masks. Each person turned into a ghostly, looming white face in the dark. We explored the various rooms, artifacts, and random dramatic scenes that flowed along with the hyper-suspenseful music. Through the next several hours, Jemesii and I happened upon so many unbelievably bizarre scenes that every sense in my body ached. There were little metal boxes with dried fruit, or bones, or jars of metal crucifixes, a bathtub full of water with an eel swimming through it, hollow eggs with aged photographs preciously placed within them. I will leave the rest of the details for your own possible experience, if you are fortunate enough to see it for yourself! Which I would suggest. At the end of the evening, however, the most I could do was walk silently to the car, a small sense of creepiness still lingering, wondering whether to discuss what just happened or to let it live simply in my memory. (Obviously not, since I am writing about it now.) Petticoat Row 02/05/2010
Petticoat Row is a wonderful organization on Nantucket, the island I grew up on. It is just this flavor of atmosphere that has encouraged me to seek out my own professional and artistic career. This blurb, taken from their website, is the inspiration and strength of character of so many women on my island! I feel so blessed that this group of women have brought this back to life. Yay! Here is what they have to say: "Nantucket has a long and proud history of women in business. Even before the whaling days, when women were left behind to tend to land, businesses and family, female merchants were very common on our small island. The most famous of these female entrepreneurs were the shopkeepers of “Petticoat Row,” located along Centre Street, in the heart of the Old Historic District. The twenty-first century incarnation of Petticoat Row honors those fiesty women who made history on Centre Street. We are an organization of entrepreneurs committed to connecting and supporting women in business on Nantucket today. Our goal is to encourage women in our community to share their successes and knowledge with each other. Each month we will host an event which will allow a woman to share her story and expertise with the rest of us. In doing so, we hope to create a forum for new ideas, motivation and growth." ~Petticoat Row ![]() They have referenced me in their blog, and I am excited to share it with you!
